KUCHING: The Sarawak government will step up efforts to provide water supply to all parts of the state by 2025.

This was to ensure the rural populace will also be able to enjoy clean and reliable water supply in their respective areas, said Utilities Assistant Minister (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman.

As such, despite the movement control order (MCO), conditional movement control order (CMCO) and now recovery movement control order (RMCO), the projects would continue uninterrupted, he pointed out.

“In fact, throughout the period, the ministry through the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) has undertaken various strategies to ensure smooth implementation of the projects,” he added.

According to him, among the approaches taken was the sharing of up-to-date information on water supply via the social media network.

“JBALB is also in the process of improving information on rural water supply through the multimedia,” he said after chairing JBALB joint management meeting at his ministry here on Thursday (June 18).

Dr Abdul Rahman said JBALB had been tasked to implement critical water supply projects in rural areas throughout the state until 2025.

“These include implementing the Rural Water Supply Project and Sarawak Water Supply Grid Programme in Stressed Areas. Others are Phase 1, Two and Three of the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply Project or Sawas,” he said.
