KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) has been preparing for polls since the formation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Youth chief Robert Ayu said members were always ready and “we were preparing for the state election as the federal government was under Pakatan Harapan (PH) then.”
“But somehow, luck came our way when PH collapsed and GPS is a partner in Perikatan Nasional at federal level. This would be easier to have the state election simultaneously with the parliamentary election,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
For the 12th state election, Robert said Youth members would be meeting the people on the first week of July.
“In some places, we have started and also abide by the recovery movement control order (RMCO) standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said.
On June 22, a source in GPS told The Star that Sarawak would have its state election together with the general election because of the current political uncertainty at federal level.
The source also said that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was already discussing with the election commission (EC) on preparations for a sudden dissolution of the state assembly, as reported in The Star.
