MUKAH: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed that every Chief Minister of Sarawak has his own style of administration but with the same mission and vision of developing the state and looking after the best interests of the people.
“From the first Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, second, Dato’ Penghulu Tawi Sli, third, Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Yakub, fourth, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, fifth, Tan Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem, and myself we have own way of looking after the state and its people,” he said at the official launching of the state-level NegaraKu Sehati Sejiwa Programme at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja, here.
“Every each one of us, with our own approaches, especially for the first two Chief Ministers, theirs were based on the situation of that time, such as on early period of Independence and the formation of Malaysia and at the same time also factors from outside,” he said.
Johari considered the period of the third Chief Minister Tun Rahman as the early era of placing the importance of education which eventually led to the formation of Sarawak Foundation.
And he added, the fourth Chief Minister Tun Taib focused on the `Politics of Development’ as an effort to develop the vast and scattered population of Sarawak.
“The fifth Chief Minister, Tok Nan, has uplifted the spirit of sons and daughters of Sarawak and to get the rights of Sarawakians back to where it belongs and also the special focus on the development of rural areas.
“And for me, I am also fortunate that the state cabinet is also together with me to place Sarawak at the greatest height possible with my own integrated approach,” he said.
For that, he said, talking about global, the digital economy is the way and also at the same time his administration would also focus on eco-system that requires a deeper exploration of the state’s rich natural resources in the aspiration of placing Sarawak as the richest state in Malaysia by the year 2030.
The Chief Minister also pointed that the nation is now ahead of other developing nations and would achieve the developed nation status by 2020.
“In terms of unity in diversity, I am glad to note that Sarawak had been dubbed by the Prime Minister as the living testimony of the 1Malaysia Concept where the multi-racial people live peacefully and harmoniously under one roof,” he added.
At the end of the colorful programme which attracted more than 5,000 people from all walks of life, Johari flagged off the Kembara Merdeka Negaraku convoy headed by the Malaysian Information Department.
