SIBU: Chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), Clarence Ting, has suggested the provision of water tanks for all food stall owners here to avoid having their business interrupted in the event of water supply disruption.
According to him, the matter will be brought up in the next SMC monthly meeting.
He said the suggestion was made following a water supply disruption in most parts of Sibu last Wednesday due to a break on the main pipe in Jalan Salim here.
“I will raise this matter at the next SMC meeting, whether we can mandate the food stalls to install water tanks so that any water disruption problems would not interfere with their business activities,” he said here today.
Ting said water supply returned on Thursday at 12pm after it was closed for repair works at Jalan Salim.
“Water supply was up at the downtown area at around 1.30pm and houses at Rantau Panjang only had their water supply restored at 11pm as it was located far from the water treatment plant,” he said.
Ting has contacted the Sibu Water Board (SWB) where they had recommended users to keep water in tanks in preparation for any future water supply disruption.
He stressed that this is to avoid any inconvenience in the event that the problem repeats itself.
Additionally, Ting had also conducted observations on the installation of traffic lights at Ulu Sungai Merah on Saturday.
“It will take three months for these works to be completed,” he said.
