KUCHING: It is now compulsory for all Sarawakians returning from overseas to undergo the 14-day quarantine at designated quarantine centres.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this was decided after two Sarawak students who had returned from Australia were tested positive for Covid-19.
He said under the present standard operating procedure (SOP), the students were required to have their test taken on the second day, and were allowed to return home because the test result then came back negative.
“As stated in our SOP, on the 10th day, another test was taken. The test result of the two students mentioned found them to be positive.
“And because of this development, SDMC has decided that we go back to our previous SOP whereby Sarawakians returning from overseas, are required to undergo quarantine for 14 days at designated quarantine centres,” he said during a Covid-19 daily update press conference yesterday.
He said the Covid-19 test would be taken on the second and the tenth day of quarantine period.
Uggah also disclosed that Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has set a SOP for the reopening of the Kuching Waterfront Musical Fountain starting July 18.
“The state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) has also come up with its SOP for live events related to the creative industry such as multimedia, cultural arts and cultural heritage including indoor busking with immediate effect,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has also allowed the reopening of sports and recreation sectors under the third and fourth phases involving team sports, combat sports, individual sports and motoring.
“Details of the SOP can be obtained from the respective ministries and agencies,” he said.
