BINTULU: A fire has left 135 occupants of an 18-door longhouse, Rumah Lanting Depong at Nanga Gun in Sungai Arip, with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
The fire broke out around 11.30pm last Saturday (July18), said the State Fire and Rescue Department.
Its spokesperson said firefighters from Tatau were deployed to Nanga Gun after receiving a distress call.
“Upon arrival, the firemen saw that the fire was already at its height. The wooden longhouse was completely burnt to the ground.
“However, all of the occupants — 65 males and 70 females — were unhurt during the incident,” he said.
The fire was brought under control about three hours later and the cause is still being probed.
