KUCHING: Local villagers welcome the extension of Kuching Waterfront (the Petra Jaya side) for 1.5km from Kampung Tanjong right up to Kampung Tupong.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the project under the 12th Malaysia Plan will cost RM30 million.

The people believe that the villages will become livelier with the development of the waterfront and that the infrastructure was a great move to attract foreign tourists.

Also, the beautification project will enhance the city’s scenery as it highlights the juxtaposition of the modern and the traditional.

‘There are many business opportunities when the Kuching Waterfront had been extended. This area can become a business centre just like the opposite bank which is becoming more vibrant with various activities.  We are very grateful to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for fulfilling his promise to beautify Kuching City.’
