ONLINE WORLD POETRY RECITAL
DALAT: Ten students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dalat were among the 870 participants from various countries participating in the online World Poetry Recital 2020 themed “Suaramu Ke Riba Alam” last Sunday (July 19) from 10am to 10pm.
They were Sharifah Farrah Izzati Wan Ibrahim, Andrea Kamil, Jash Shereen Zaini, Patricia Anis, Mary Ann Klanal, Eizan Abdullah, Marnisha Majedi, Hani Juita Natasya Juni, Dewi Ratna Kartika Juni and Nicholas Wan Saba.
They were accompanied by Bahasa Melayu teachers Abdul Gafar Mahdi and Juni Nor.
Coordinator Abdul Gafar said a recorded video of participants were posted on Facebook with hashtag #suaramukeribaalam.
He said the purpose of the programme was to express love for the environment and to create awareness to the world on importance of sustaining the environment.
“The event also provided allowed the students to showcase their talents in poetry recital while enabling them to obtain marks at the highest level of involvement (international) in co-curriculum assessment (Assessment of physical, sports and co-curriculum (PAJSK)),” he said via WhatsApp yesterday.
Meanwhile, programme committee head (panitia) Juni described the event as a noble one which could help to foster the spirit of love for the environment, especially among the young generation.
He added it provided an opportunity for Malaysia to participate, empower, appreciate and discuss the importance of protecting and preserving the environment amid development through poetry.
The event was organised by the Malay Studies Department of Teachers Training Institute, Technical Education Campus, Negeri Sembilan and Malaysian Poet Association (Penyair) Malaysia, and participated by Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Belgium and Algeria.
