KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institue (TROPI) will plant 25 new trees in the Kota Samarahan area.
This is an initiative by TROPI to promote reforestation in the state.
They started off by planting three trees inside the compound of the TROPI.
“We plant trees not for ourselves, but for our future generation. When you plant a tree, you plant a life,” said TROPI director Dr Lulie Melling on Thursday (July 23).
Among those present at the event were Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) director Dr Morshidi Ahmad and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos.
The tree saplings comprised various species such as Garcinia subelliptica, Bucida molineti and Eugina oleania.
A short tour was conducted by TROPI to show off the equipment and laboratory inside the institute to the visitors.
The tree planting programme was jointly organised by DBKU and MPKS.
