MIRI: Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting has lauded the federal government’s move for mandatory use of face masks in public areas from August 1.

He however urged the authorities to ensure sufficient supply of the face masks.

“Recently, the federal government has made it mandatory for people to wear face masks every time they go outside from their home, and the purpose (of the mandatory rule) is to limit the spread of Covid-19 virus,” said Ting yesterday.

He pointed out that the mandatory use of face masks was crucial in order to defeat the second wave of Covid-19.

“My concern is those in the rural areas, and that is why the federal government should consider some assistance to provide for these people to ensure no shortage of face masks,” he said.

He noted that the Sarawak government through its Disaster Management Committee had been distributing free face masks to all Sarawakians since March.
