RED ZONE
KUCHING: Kuching District is on the edge of red zone status in light of the increased number of positive Covid-19 cases reported by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
However, the committee in a statement today informed that Kuching was still a yellow zone as it had only recorded 39 local infection cases over the past 14 days, which was still under the limit of 40 for red zones.
“This means that the total number of districts in Sarawak which have yellow status remains at three, namely Kuching, Samarahan, and Bau, while the number of green zones remains at 37,” they said.
They said that they had taken steps which will be discussed and implemented as preparation if the district changes into a red zone.
“The current trend is still being assessed and monitored every day by all agencies and departments involved in SDMC. Further steps will be announced in due course,” they said.
Besides this, the committee said that action to increase contact tracing was being actively carried out.
They urged the public to be patient and not politicise the matter and cause panic in the community.
“The announcement on further steps to be taken will be made in due time and hopefully the public will always comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) which has been set,” said SDMC.
On recovery movement control order (RMCO) compliance, they reported that 2,106 premises had been surveyed yesterday, comprising supermarkets (371), restaurants (400), factories (18), banks (183), government offices (147), hawkers (45), public markets (77), places of worship (111), recreational places (71), construction sites (20), and others (663).
They said that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) had issued 37 compound notices for non-compliance with the SOP — 19 in Miri, Kuching (14), Simunjan (two), Lawas (one), and Sarikei (one).
With regard to Ops Benteng, they said that there were six roadblocks in five districts yesterday, namely two in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
“From these six roadblocks, a total of 1,345 vehicles were checked,” he said.
