KUCHING: Muslims in the state have been advised to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha this Friday (July 31) moderately.
Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee gave the advice in a voice message posted on his Facebook page on Monday (July 27).
Pointing out that Covid-19 cases were increasing while the index of infection was on the rise, he said, “This is proof that the people are facing a second wave of the virus outbreak. Therefore, we must continue to abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Whether we like it or not, we must wear face masks and avoid crowded places.”
Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, said the government and the authorities must also take firm actions against those who failed to comply with the SOPs.
“And if possible, drastic measures within these two or three days must be taken. Even more, when the Hari Raya Aidiladha is going to be celebrated this Friday,” he said.
Dr Annuar also reminded Sarawakians to stay united in facing the pandemic.
“The people will be able to overcome it successfully only when everyone is responsible. If we are not able to tackle this second wave, the situation will worsen. It will also affect the national economy and the incomes of the general public.
“Again, I urge all to adhere to the SOPs, avoid crowded places and always take care of their health. Stay at home and only leave the house when necessary, especially in these two or three days or in the coming two to three weeks,” he said.
