Sarawak PKR against allies giving up seats to PSB: Sng

SIBU: Sarawak PKR is against its allies conceding seats to Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) as PSB is not part of Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Sarawak PKR chairman Larry Sng warned that PKR would contest in seats that its allies – DAP and Amanah – had given up to PSB.

Sng said it had come to his attention that their allies had privately conceded five to six seats to PSB, including the Bawang Assan seat.

“If this is true, PKR is ready to contest in Bawang Assan if DAP abandons its commitment to the people in that area. This rule applies to all state seats in Sarawak.

“Unless PSB is part of the coalition and abides by the rules of the coalition, we shall not, under any circumstances, accord them the same level of cooperation as our allies.”

Sng said that to his understanding, PSB did not wish to be part of Sarawak PH.

“As such the issue of cooperation with them shall not arise.”

PKR, he said, would not honour any side agreements if they were to materialise.

“If our allies choose not to contest, it is important that the matter be raised at the Sarawak PH state level for other PH parties to contest in their absence,” he added.

The Julau MP said the level of trust and cooperation that existed between PKR and its allies was based on mutual understanding and common principles that had been forged over the years.

“It is also these very principles that have defined our coalition, which gave confidence to the Malaysian people for us to win in the last general election.”

He added that at the recent seat negotiations for the state election, discussions were smooth and that they were close to reaching an agreement with all parties.

“The allocation of seats is based on the understanding that the parties that are given those seats, shall honour and contest in those areas.

“It betrays the trust of the coalition and our supporters, should individual parties decide not to contest to make way for other parties outside of PH,” he said.
