KUCHING: Medan Niaga Satok here was closed yesterday for sanitisation work following the detection of a new Covid-19 cluster (Satok Market Cluster) there.

Four traders at the market had tested positive for Covid-19 on July 27. None showed any signs or symptoms.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas told a press conference on Tuesday (July 28) that the four were among 229 individuals who underwent mass screening on July 25 and 26.

The source of infection is being investigated and contact tracing of the cluster being carried out.

On the sanitisation operation yesterday, a State Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the 30-minute operation covered an area of about 48,562 sq metres. It started at 9.10am and ended at 9.40am.

A total of 22 Bomba personnel took part in the operation.

A similar sanitation operation was carried out at the Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex ( Komtas) in Muara Tebas yesterday.

Three vessels belonging to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and two Vietnamese fishing vessels were disinfected. The operation, which involved seven Bomba personnel, started at 9.10am and ended at 9.40am.
