KUCHING: A car driver was killed in a road accident at Sri Aman – Sarikei Road today.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said, in a statement, the 10am accident occurred at KM22.
“The accident was believed to have happened after the victim veered into the opposite lane towards Sarikei and crashed his car head-on with a lorry heading for Sri Aman.”
As a result of the crash, the victim suffered severe head injuries and was stuck in the driver’s seat.
The dead man was identified as Reedy Jalin, 33, who hailed from Rumah Hassan Temelan, Sri Aman.
Alexson added it was raining heavily during the incident.
The case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
He added that Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called to the scene to extricate the body from the wreckage.
“It was then sent to the Sri Aman Hospital mortuary for a post mortem scheduled to be performed on tomorrow. The lorry driver was also detained and had his blood sample taken for testing.”
Alexson urged witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.
