KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 cases on Monday (Aug 3). Hence, the total number of positive cases in the state remains at 678.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), there were five new recovery cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases which had recovered and discharged to 599, or 88.35 percent.

“At present, there are 60 cases undergoing treatment at isolation wards in hospitals. The total Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak remain at 19 or 2.80 percent,” it said in a statement.

Apart from that, 15 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported while there were no case awaiting lab results.

To date, there are 10 active clusters in the state, namely Engineering Firm with eight cases, Mambong (seven), Medical Centre (three), Jupiter (three), Stutong Market (seven), Kuching Jetty (two), Sentosa (31), PUI Melbourne (three), Kuching Construction Company (two) and Satok Market (four).

In another development, SDMC revealed that 22 healthcare facilities in the state had taken a total of 1,615 samples for Covid-19 test among Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) starting last April.

“Of the total, one positive sample was detected in Sibu (0.06 percent) in April while 1,571 samples were negative and 43 others were awaiting lab results,” it said.

It further disclosed that five governmental health clinics in Kuching had conducted Surveillance Respiratory Symptoms starting July 20, where all 91 samples taken had returned negative for Covid-19.

On random sampling at points of entry into the state, a total of 1,642 samples was taken. Of these, four were found positive while 1,629 returned negative and nine others were still awaiting lab results.

On random sampling at construction sites throughout the state, a total of 1,341 samples was taken. Of these, one sample was found positive at a construction site in Samarahan Division, while 1,267 returned negative and 73 others were still awaiting lab results.

On random sampling at plantations, 148 samples were of Malaysian citizens while 125 were of foreign workers. Of the total combined, 230 samples were negative while 43 others were still awaiting lab results.

SDMC also screened 58 fishermen in Betong as well as 149 random samples from four schools and kindergartens (Taska). All samples came back negative for Covid-19.

“On screening of school and Taska staff, a total of 53 samples were taken. Of these, 52 were negative and one is still awaiting lab result,” it added.
