161 BKI applications approved

KUCHING: The state government has approved a total of 161 applications for the RM3,000 Sarawak Death Compassionate Assistance (BKI) initiative.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the assistance was to cover funeral expenses of the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) holder.

“The assistance is only eligible for those who have yet to apply or without any retirement financial schemes or initiatives,” she said at a press conference in conjunction with the handover of KGCs on Monday (Aug 3).

As of July 31 this year, Fatimah said a total of 297 applications for the BKI initiative were received.

The applications were from Kuching (52), Miri (49), Sarikei (42), Sri Aman (27), Sibu (27), Bintulu (20), Serian (18), Kapit (18), Mukah (14), Limbang (14), Samarahan (11) and Betong (five).
