KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is studying an initiative to offer franchise business packages with suitable investment capital costs in order to attract youth participation.

Its minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said that this initiative would include franchise fees, modification and equipment costs, start-up stocks, and training.

“KPDNHEP hopes that this proposal can attract more youth to venture into the franchise business in the future,” he said in reply to a question from Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat in Parliament, Putrajaya yesterday.

On another issue raised regarding agricultural inputs such as fertiliser, pesticides, and others to be placed under the price control mechanism, Nanta said that currently, no specific discussions had been made on this.

“However, follow-up action on this proposal will be refined and studied under the price standardisation programme before it can be implemented,” he said.

Meanwhile, he reiterated that starting Aug 15, the price ceiling for face masks would be lowered again.

He assured that KPDNHEP is continuously monitoring and evaluating the situation on permits and supplies, and is prepared to lower the cost of face masks again after refining and taking into account the interests of consumers, local manufacturers and importers.
