KUCHING: The Ministry of Works is ready to bring up the proposal of building a sky bridge or hanging bridge in Bukit Paren Binong along the Serian-Tebedu Road to the Economic Planning Unit (EPU).
Its Senior Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said he agreed with Serian MP, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem that the Bukit Paren Binong area was quite attractive.
Fadillah added he was ready to support Riot’s proposal that the construction of the sky bridge be considered under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“We will also appoint a consultant or the Public Works Department (JKR) to conduct a study in this area,” he said in reply to Riot who had asked about the suggestion to build the sky bridge during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 11).
Riot pointed out that the sky bridge could be a potential tourist attraction.
Fadillah said from the information received from JKR Sarawak, the upgrading of the entire Bukit Paren Binong area would involve more than RM20 billion.
“Therefore, the Serian MP’s plan of focusing on the Sky Bridge is a good idea to add to the tourist attractions in the area,” he said.
On the Serian-Tebedu Road, Fadillah explained it was a F21 federal road, based on a review by the Ministry of Works and data from the Road Traffic Volume Malaysia (RTVM) for 2019.
He added that the road was at Service A Level.
