BAU: The power supply to a coffee shop at Siniawan Village here was cut off today by police on suspicion of being an online gambling den.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement said that the operation was carried out by a team of personnel of Bau Criminal Investigation Division (CID), led by officers of Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco).

He said that the action made at 11.45am on the premises was in accordance with Section 21A of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which states that the police can cut off the power supply to premises that is found to be a place of illegal gambling activities.

“The said the premises had been raided several times on suspicion of carrying out online gambling activities.

“Hence, their electricity supply was cut off so that it would not operate again,” he said.
