KUCHING: A man cheated death when his BMW car caught fire after crashing into a signboard at a junction to Marudi in Miri last Sunday.

He was unhurt in the 7.00pm incident.

According to a spokesman of State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), eight personnel in a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) machinery and an EMRS vehicle from Lopeng fire station were mobilised to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.02pm.

However, upon their arrival at the scene, about 18 kilometres from the station at 7.33pm, the car was already engulfed in flames.

The firefighters took about 15 minutes to put out the fire and the operation ended 7.53pm.
