KUCHING: The people of Kota Samarahan will not be complacent in the war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos said despite the state’s status as a green zone, MPKS would continue to ensure compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) among its residents.

“We in MPKS and Kota Samarahan certainly feel relieved and happy that we are now back in the green zone. It was not good being categorised as a yellow zone, and worst, as a red zone.

“Green or not, we in MPKS still want everyone in Kota Samarahan to listen and abide by the rules of the RMCO (recovery movement control order) and its SOPs,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Minos said the SOPs to be emphasised in particular included the wearing of face masks, observing physical distancing and regular hand washing.

“We must follow the SOPs until Covid-19 is gone,” he stressed.

He added that the authorities would be tough with stubborn business owners who refused to comply with the SOPs.

“We have repeatedly told them to take the temperatures of customers, their phone numbers and their names.

“They must get ready the hand sanitisers and ensure the temperature measuring devices are working,” he stressed.

Minos revealed that MPKS would have another meeting with the representatives of Bandar Riyal market and shops this Sunday for a public re-briefing on how to eliminate the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We in MPKS treat Covid-19 as our worst enemy that must be subdued. We will tell the public in Kota Samarahan not to be complacent, and instead be aware that the war against Covid-19 is not yet over.

“This must be impressed upon the public and we in MPKS will do our part to the best we possibly can,” he said.
