BPSB rewarded with OSH Gold Class 1 Award for 2016

BINTULU: Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) was recently awarded OSH Gold Class 1 Award- Very Good OSH Performance for 2016 by Malaysian Society of Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) during its annual award presentation ceremony held at Times Square Hotel here on 24 August. It is considered as a national level award presentation ceremony.

The award was received by Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) Group CEO, Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah.

Also present at the award presentation ceremony was Guest of Honour, Minister of Human Resources, Dato’ Sri Richard Riot Anak Jaem and delegates from BPSB and BPHB. There were 161 participants with 75 in the Gold Class 1 Category which included major oil and gas organisations.

BPSB had participated in the prestigious award since 1995 to measure and give recognition for commendable OSH performance. Participation in the award provides an opportunity for the company to evaluate the OSH performance and continuously improve their OSH performance as the award is being audited by trained auditors with stringent criteria.

This year, BPSB participated in the Logistics and Transportation Category where BPSB was the only recipient for the Gold Class 1 award which is the highest in the category. However, BPSB will strive to achieve the highest performance by making OSH a culture in BPSB.

BPSB has OSH Management System in place with certified OHSAS18001:2007 and MS1722:2011.Without the commitment of the management, support of the employees, contractors and port users, implementation of the management system would not be successful.

The evaluation covers documentation and site audit evaluations which include management commitment, OSH Management Systems, targets and objectives, monitoring of OSH, risk assessment and OSH programmes and activities in 2016. 

The OSH Award was audited in two parts that is the documentation which includes the OSH Management Systems with evidence supporting the system, and site audits confirming the submission.

Various activities were conducted to engage with the employees, contractors and port users to ensure the implementation of the OSH MS.

Participation in the OSH award is also to benchmark BPSB HSE performance in particular with the Oil and Gas industries and to meet the standards of oil and gas HSE practices.
