MIRI: Police arrested five men suspected to be involved in the abduction of a jobless 28-year-old man Jalan Bintang around 4.30pm here on Tuesday (August 18).

Miri District police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest of the suspects, aged between 18 and 40, less than 12 hours after the case was reported.

“The suspects were arrested at a hotel in the city centre at around 1am on Wednesday (August 19),” he said.

Lim added police also seized a Toyota Alphard Multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), believed to have been used by the suspects in the incident and a few other items.

He said police believed the motive behind the abduction was related to failure to settle business debts.

Police are investigating the case under Section 363 of the Penal Code.

On Tuesday (August 18), a video footage of the incident was widely circulated on social media where a man was seen being pushed into an MPV by the suspects at Jalan Bintang here around 4.30pm.

The man was later found in front of a bank in the city centre at Jalan Merbau at around 6pm.
