KUCHING: Police have called in Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) members for questioning regarding their act of putting up Chinese characters on road signs in the city.
They were called in around 3pm yesterday to record their statements on the matter at the Kuching district police headquarters (IPD).
DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen who was present, said they would be giving their full cooperation into the probe.
He added that their presence at the police station also reflected their commitment to solve the issue with the authorities.
Dapsy’s actions of putting up Chinese characters on road signs around Kuching had caused an uproar in social media and resulted in various parties to voice out their concerns.
Some deemed the actions as vandalism, others as causing racial tension, while Dapsy was also chided for disregarding the law. There were also comments that the party was only looking for some cheap publicity.
Among those present at the police station yesterday were Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, former Stampin MP Julian Tan and Dapsy Kuching chief Daphne Ting.
