KUCHING: Entrepreneurs need to be daring and innovative, especially those operating in urban regions where there is greater competition, said Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
He said that while the market was certainly larger in cities such as Kuching, it could also be fussier compared to rural areas.
“Entrepreneurs have to be competitive and innovative in finding ways to promote their products. Nowadays, there are facilities which enable them to promote their products online.
“The advantage in urban areas is that the internet facilities are stronger and more accessible compared to rural areas,” he said when officiating at the grand opening of Tino Collection boutique at China Street here on Friday night.
He said vendors could also access the market easily with online capabilities, gaining a better understanding of what the market wants. He added that customers could communicate with vendors quickly and effectively online to find out what products were in store.
He said that products could even be sent to customers using e-hailing services available these days.
“In other words, entrepreneurs should use the facilities available in the cities to help themselves especially in terms of promotions, sales, sourcing, and so on,” said Naroden.
He also advised vendors not to focus solely on one product, but instead to diversify the range of products they offered.
Meanwhile, he congratulated Siti Noor Haizan, the owner of Tino Collection, for starting up her boutique business in such a strategic area. He hoped that Siti would be a model for other entrepreneurs.
“There is great competition in the market, but from today’s response here, the potential for the products she sells is very high indeed,” he said.
