KUCHING: The Merdeka Auto Show 2017 will be back again for its 6th edition with more programmes and activities for motoring enthusiasts in the state.
Assistant Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Snowdan Lawan told a conference that the carnival was a positive activity, especially for youths.
“It provides a venue for motoring enthusiasts to get together and an opportunity for the youngsters to understand more about automotive mechanical engineering,” Snowdan told a press conference on the carnival held at iCom Square here yesterday.
He said the carnival also acted as a platform for the automotive industry players to meet and exchange ideas.
Snowdan also pointed that his ministry would always support activities which benefited youths in the state.
He added the carnival could be used to educate youths on road safety.
The Merdeka Auto Carnival 2017 will take place on September 16 and 17 in the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) compound.
The two-day event features an autoshow competition, Kone Attack gymkhana and drift (9am-10pm), the display of 13 hobby groups as well as merchants in the indoor hall (new wing), a cosplay talent competition, a hotwheel competition (1pm) and a car limbo competition at night.
On the second day, the autoshow competition will continue, followed by the Merdeka Convoy which starts at 12pm, a model photoshoot competition (10am -11am) and a free Zumba session from 2pm to 3pm.
500 participants from throughout Sarawak and Sabah will be joining the event while a crowd of 15,000 is expected to turn up.
Also present at the press conference yesterday was Sarawak Automotive-Enthiasiast Society (SAS) patron, Datuk Patrick Liew.
