KUCHING: The women folk have been urged to continue their role as agents of change for the community, especially those in the rural areas, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman.
“Apart from communicating with our folk at grassroots level on the various development projects that were carried out by the government, the important role of women in disseminating such information is vital in order to garner the support of the people and to keep them abreast with the latest development agendas,” he said.
Abdul Karim said this during a dialogue session held in conjunction with the ‘Sarawak Kita Empun’ programme at Samarahan Civic Centre on Sunday.
“I also call upon women folk to help in shouldering the responsibility of dispelling any baseless allegations by the opposition, especially in the upcoming 12th state election as it was made solely to garner sympathy,” he said.
He also slammed the empty promises offered by those who inspire to become candidates in the coming election, because most of what they had mentioned have already been implemented by the present state government.
“Most of the offers made are old and stale in which the local folk have already been accustomed with, especially when the opposition are doing rounds with their election gimmicks to fish for votes.
“They (opposition) are now running out of ideas on how to get support from local folk and the same old issues are being brought up, including those on petty matters which do not make sense at all,” he said.
Abdul Karim, who is also the Tourism, Arts and Culture cum Youth and Sports Minister, stressed the state government has been consistent in fulfilling its promises to local folk in Asajaya and in other parts of Sarawak, as well with ample proof to quash any allegations that had been played up by the opposition.
“They (opposition) are oblivious to what we (the state government) have already done for the people and not forgetting the billions of relief assistances that were given to our people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Why are they not mentioning this to our rural folk who have also benefitted from the various relief assistances under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sarawak (BKSS) assistance?” he asked.
In the meantime, he also expressed his confidence that the people of Sarawak will not be easily deceived by the opposition’s baseless claims.
Also present were Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Karim and Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
