KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Women Movement takes the task of familiarising voters with the coalition’s new logo very seriously, said its chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
She said making the GPS logo known to the voters was very important so that the people would not confuse the GPS logo with the Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK)’s hornbill logo or Barisan Nasional (BN)’s dacing (scale) logo in the coming state election.
“This is the first time we will be using the GPS logo for our very own Sarawak-based coalition comprising Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“We want to make the logo known to our people because our loyal voters may still look for ‘dacing’ symbol which belonged to the previous BN coalition.
“Another worrying reason is because PBK is also using ‘hornbill’ symbol which looks similar to that of GPS,” she said in a statement on Monday (Sept 7).
To clear the air, the Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development said the GPS Women Movement was working hard to familiarise the voters with the new logo.
“Wherever we go, whenever there is a reaching out programme, we will wear our GPS uniform, distribute the GPS flags and educate the people on how to vote on ballot papers.
“There are a few differences between the logos of GPS and PBK. The most obvious difference is that ours has GPS letters clearly shown below the hornbill symbol.
“Thus, when we promote our GPS logo to our people, we emphasise that ours has the letters G-P-S clearly shown as part and parcel of our logo. That is the big difference,” she elaborated.
