MIRI: Sarawak’s major energy services group, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd, plans to reinforce its local presence by having a new integrated energy hub in Tanjung Kidurong Bintulu, with investments worth at RM300 million.
According to Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ir Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah, the Bintulu Integrated Energy Hub (BIEH) is a 30-acre development in Tanjung Kidurong which will house the MRO and IRM (inspection, repair and maintenance) centre of excellence in Sarawak.
“The company’s new integrated maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facility is expected to be ready end of this month,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune in an interview recently.
The construction of the hub has been planned over four years.
The group is targeting BIEH to become a central facility that will provide a multitude of MRO and relevant scopes of work.
“The centre will host MRO workshops, blasting, coating and galvanisation areas and plants, fabrication and laydown areas, warehouses and storage facilities, as well as other facilities such as office buildings, car parks, power substation, a waste water treatment facility and training centre.
“One of our goals is to create Malaysia’s first MRO and IRM global centre of excellence designed to serve the needs of the oil and gas as well as power generation industries in Malaysia,” he said.
He explained that with the in-house facilities and resources, the proposed centre of excellence would be a one-stop engineering solutions centre for the repair and maintenance of plants, facilities, machinery and equipment.
The hub would also be equipped with cutting edge technology such as high-speed balancing machine, computer numerical control horizontal and vertical milling centre, electrical discharge machine, high precision coordinate measuring machine as well as other cutting-edge technologies which will be the first in Asia.
“We want to operate in a big facility to cater to our MRO services in the region,” Mohd Karim added.
He said the move was line with the company’s regeneration initiatives to position itself as Sarawak’s MRO hub driven by the State government’s support for the overall sector.
“We truly believe and are confident there is potential for Sarawak to emerge as a business energy hub in Malaysia,” he added.
Apart from BIEH in Tanjung Kidurong Bintulu, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd is also investing in similar business sector in Pengerang, Johore.
“We try to provide options for companies surrounding the area including in Peninsula Malaysia and Singapore to use the facilities,” he said.
