SIBU: Sixty-four individuals were issued compounds for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the recovery movement control order (RMCO) during an inspection on Saturday (Sept 12).
The individuals comprising 44 men and 20 women were arrested in an operation dubbed Ops Bersepadu (in conjunction with Malaysia Day) at 12.35am at an entertainment centre in Lorong Ek Dee.
“They failed to adhere to social distancing when inside the premises and violated the SOPs,” said Sibu District police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit in a statement on Sunday (Sept 13).
Stanley also stated that all individuals were then taken to Central Sibu Police Station to be issued with compounds.
He added that the 59-year-old owner of the premises and his six employees were also detained for exceeding the hours of operation allowed.
“Police also confiscated several items such as laptops, televisions, speakers, and beer and liquor of various types,” he said.
In a separate case, Stanley said four men and two women were detained under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Without revealing much, he said the operation — from 8pm to 12am — also saw 14 traffic summonses issued in Sibu Jaya and 25 premises were inspected.
“In last night’s (Sept 12) operation, 169 men and 64 women were inspected. A total of 26 vehicles were also inspected,” he explained.
He said the integrated operation was also joined by external agencies and community policing.
“As Sibu was chosen to host this year’s Malaysia Day celebration, we need to ensure that Sibu is safe to visit,” said Stanley.
