SIBU: A man who was allegedly involved in nine car buying-selling fraud via his Facebook account was charged at the Magistrate Court here on Monday (Sept 14).
State Commercial Crime Investigation Department Chief, Supt Maria Rasid said the accused, 33, from Kuching, however, pleaded not guilty to 21 charges under Section 420 of the Penal Code and two charges under Section 424 of the Penal Code.
“The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges read out. The court has offered a cash bail of RM205,000 with two local sureties for all 23 charges and the accused was found to have failed to provide the bail.
“For that, the accused is currently remanded in custody in Sibu prison,” she explained in a statement on Monday (Sept 14).
Maria also revealed that the accused was arrested by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of Padawan IPD for being involved in 15 cases of car buying and selling fraud through Facebook last Sept 3 (Thursday).
“All 15 cases involved total losses in excess of RM50,000 as reported in the districts of Sibu, Bintulu, Saratok, Sri Aman, and Kota Samarahan,” she continued.
Earlier, the charge was read out by Prosecution Officer Inspector Badrul Iskandar Selamat before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, while the second charge was read by Prosecution Officer Inspector Awang Iswandi Awang Mahmuddin before Magistrate Muhammad Faizal Che Saad.
Maria stated that the court further set October 26 this year for case management before the trial.
