KUCHING: The Ministry of National Unity has agreed to set up Religious Diversity Committee in every state in Malaysia.
Its Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique said the ministry, after learning from Sarawak which has its Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), pointed out that it had agreed to establish the said committee.
“During a meeting with the exco members, we had agreed to establish not exactly like Unifor but to set up a Religious Diversity Committee in each state,” she said when answering to a question from Senator Nuing Jeluing at the Dewan Negara sessions on Tuesday (Sept 15).
Nuing on Sept 7 had asked the National Unity Ministry whether the ministry had a proposal to set up a committee like Unifor in Sarawak.
According to Halimah, as for now, all states have set up the said committee which is chaired by all the state’s Unity exco chairman.
“Any matter related to the non-Muslim Houses of Worship, it can be brought up to the Religious Diversity Committee,” he said.
He also advised the respective state government to not only accept the said committee but also put in some allocation to help the newly established committee.
“This is so that the allocation given can help this committee in whatever they need,” she said.
