MIRI: Heavy rains for the past few days overwhelmed several low-lying areas in the northern region on Wednesday (Sept 16).

Several areas, including the state’s longest longhouse with 600 residents in Kampung Long Bemang, upper Baram, were inundated.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat said floods in other parts were seen subsiding.

In areas such as in Beluru, upper Baram and Marudi, flood water levels remained the same, despite while in some areas showing the flood waters starting to subside at some villages.

In Beluru, floods subsided completely at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Sobeng. And in Telang Usan, floods seem to have subsided in nine low-lying areas, including Kampung Long Bemang.

Flood in Kampung Long Wat, Apoh Tutuh, have also subsided.

In Marudi, flood water levels remaining unchanged.
