SIBU: Police will continue to hunt down drug traffickers who use entertainment centres here.
Sarawak Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief, ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin shared that the department managed to bring down a syndicate by seizing a total of 4.8kg of drugs, suspected to be ketamine with an estimated value of RM264,000, in a raid at an entertainment centre at Sungai Merah last Saturday (Sept 19) at 9pm.
“During the operation, the raiding team found two boxes containing five packages of crystalline substances, believed to be ketamine, with a total weight of 4.8kg.
“We believe the drugs can be distributed to 4,800 users.
“Apart from that, the team also arrested a couple aged 33 and 34, believed to be the premises owners, on suspicion of being involved in the syndicate,” he told a press conference at the Sibu district police headquarters on Monday (Sept 21).
Jasmirol added that the team also confiscated RM24,000 in cash and a car with an estimated value of RM40,000.
Further investigations found both suspects tested positive for drugs and had previous criminal records relating to drugs.
“We are currently investigating where the seized drugs came from. Both suspects have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations,” he said.
The case will be investigated under Section 39B and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
