KUCHING: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has called out Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) for not ‘showing up’ at a local community-led programme today.

He noticed that DBKU officials were not present at the programme initiated by the local community under the DBKU jurisdiction and stressed that they should be on the ground.

“Only one I see missing here is DBKU. They were invited to this event. They should be here.

“I do not know why DBKU seems to be staying in the office all the time. They must be on the ground,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch of ‘Kuching Old Bazaar: Cultural Mapping and Tourism Promotion Programme’ held at Carpenter Street here on Thursday.

Abdul Karim who is also the Youth and Sports Minister admitted that he could be very vocal and hard-hitting when it came to such situation.

“However, I personally think this is a good programme for the locals in the area, so there’s nothing wrong basking under the hot sun,” he added.

He also emphasised that government departments and agencies must be able to work together with the community especially on initiatives which came from the local community on the ground.

“This way, the city will be able to develop nicely. Everyone will be happy,” he said.
