Regional Corridor Development Authority

SIBU: Since its establishment, the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has been committed to transforming the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) area through various sustainable economic development programmes.

Recoda chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni said that until now there have been three main focuses – namely the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), and Highland Development Agency (HDA).

“To realise the economic potential in all areas of Sarawak, the preparation of infrastructure development in these three areas needs to be carefully planned because the area is quite remote,” he said.

He was presenting a paper on ‘Strategic Sharing: Recoda as a Catalyst of Sarawak Central Region Development’ at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) central zone convention at Kingwood Hotel here on Saturday.

Ismawi said that for URDA, the state government needed to provide complete road infrastructure as the road would be able to open a communication system which could bring in investors to the area.

“The Chief Minister is so concerned, approving an allocation of RM1.5 billion to be implemented in just two to three years for URDA, which includes roads, bridges, and water supply,” he said.

Ismawi explained that for HDA, the state government had also approved RM1.5 billion which would be used to develop 48 projects, especially involving logging roads in the affected areas.

For the Samalaju growth nodes, he informed that many young people had already found employment opportunities in this industrial area with various companies having invested in the area.
