KUCHING: One new positive Covid-19 case was reported in Kuching on Monday (Oct 5), bringing the total number of positive cases to 718 in Sarawak.
In a statement issued today, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that this recorded case is a local man who worked in Kuwait and had just recently returned to Sarawak.
“Last Thursday (Oct 1), his return to Malaysia via Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates (UAE) was early in the morning, and arrived at Kuala Lumpur in the evening before boarding a flight back to Kuching on the same day.
“When the case was at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA-1), he went through the Covid-19 screening using the RTK Antigen test which tested negative. He then continued on his journey from KLIA-2 to Kuching International Airport (KIA),” it said.
Therefore, the committee revealed that the 718th case was immediately checked into a hotel to be quarantined once he reached Kuching on Oct 2.
“On Oct 3, the case underwent another check-up through rT-PCR test screening which was found to be positive and asymptomatic. He was then referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment on the same day.
“This case has been categorised as an imported case as the patient was infected abroad,” it added.
Meanwhile, there are no active clusters in Sarawak. One fully recovered Covid-19 patient was discharged from SGH, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state of 683 or 95.13 percent out of the overall cases.
The statement also stated that there are 16 patients still being treated in hospitals statewide — eight at SGH, five at Miri Hospital, two at Sibu Hospital and one at Bintulu Hospital.
Two new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were recorded, with one case still waiting for the lab test results.
No deaths were reported; the death toll in the state remains at 19 or 2.65 percent of the total cases.
