KUCHING: With the establishment of TVS, content creators should produce more programmes loaded with moral messages, said Faculty of Language and Communication of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) lecturer Jamilah Maliki.
According to her, TVS, which can be watched on Astro’s Channel 122 starting today, is another platform for creative industry players to showcase their artwork.
“With this free television joining the likes of TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9 and TV Alhijrah in our country, it is aimed at highlighting the uniqueness and diversity of Sarawak.
“For me, the establishment of TVS is a two-pronged effort by the state government, one of which is to convey information to the local community in a more targeted way.
“I am very excited to look forward to the three types of programmes that will be broadcast by TVS — documentaries, talk shows and episode dramas,” she said.
Further elaborating, Jamilah is excited to see the uniqueness and socio-cultural diversity of Sarawak highlighted.
“This kind of show is actually an opportunity for creative industry players to explore all corners of Sarawak and get to know its uniqueness.
“As for the talk show, I hope TVS would focus on issues that are relevant to today’s society.
“For example, the government has provided various initiatives to help the people but are these aids really reaching the target group? Apart from that, volunteer and humanitarian activities are also interesting. What are important, viewers from various ethnic groups certainly want programmes that highlight their cultures to make them better known, accepted and respected.
“For episode dramas, I hope they are full of moral messages. In this regard, our local creative industry players must explore and understand the life of the multiracial community in the state and then translate it into dramas laden with positive messages,” she said.
On how TVS could be an excellent television station in the future, the Unimas lecturer said the television station could offer assistance or funds to qualified local creative industry players.
According to her, apart from being able to highlight the talents of Sarawak natives, the initiative is actually more to encourage and motivate local children to produce more high quality programmes that satisfy the target audience.
Apart from that, she also hoped that TVS would provide continuous training to its staff as well as get regular responses from its viewers to ensure that each programme is according to the interests of show fans.
