12TH STATE ELECTION

KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) has urged politicians to get their priority right amidst arguments whether the state polls should be held soon or be delayed.

PBK publicity and information chief Arthur Wong said that the state election should be delayed in view of the possibility of a surge in Covid-19 cases, as what happened to Sabah.

“Why the rush when Sarawak election can be called before May 2021 and the Covid-19 vaccine will most likely be available end of 2020?” he said in a statement on Saturday.

He was responding to a recent news report in a local English daily which featured several political analysts who opined that Covid-19 pandemic should not deter Sarawak from holding its election.

He pointed out that it would be equally irresponsible to suggest that Sarawak people affected or infected by Covid-19 should claim from Election Commission (EC) and Sarawak government should the election is held despite a surge in Covid-19 cases.

“How much should Sarawak people claim from EC and Sarawak government, if any? At least RM1 million per person infected by Covid-19 and RM10 million per life?”

He said that election was not everything. The people’s welfare, health and life should be the priority. “If politicians could not get their priority right, don’t waste your votes on them,” he said.
