BALAI RINGIN: Approximately 60 families involving 250 people in the Kampung Tuba which is about 200 kilometers from here are inaccessible due to floods after incessant rains two days ago.
In fact, a teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tuba who was scheduled to attend a course at the Simunjan District Education Office was forced to turn back due to a landslide.
Concerned with the fate of the residents, Balai Ringin State Assemblyman, Snowdan Lawan yesterday surveyed the are using a helicopter.
“We cannot land because of the floods,” he told reporters after doing the survey yesterday.
“Kampung Tuba is not accessible by any vehicle due to landslides and flooding. Therefore, I will inform the Public Works Department (PWD) and contractors to do the cleaning of the affected roads as soon as possible,” he added.
“This is because we do not want villagers to lose contact with outside world, especially in times of emergency when needing to go outside such as visiting clinics and so on,” he explained.
Snowdan who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief urged the heads of villages to report to the nearest Committee on Natural Disasters at the District or Division office immediately when affected.
“This will facilitate the channeling of appropriate assistance to the people affected by the floods and landslides.
“Besides Kampung Tuba, there are three other nearby villages that were also affected by floods, namely Kampung Muding, Mentu and Muggah,” he said.
