SIMUNJAN: A 20-year-old male motorcyclist was killed while another sustained injuries in a road accident at Jalan Sungai Ladong early Monday morning (Oct 19).
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred around 5.45am involving a car and a motorcycle travelling in opposite directions.
“Investigations found that the vehicle driven by a 27-year-old man along with two passengers heading to Kuching, was attempting to overtake a lorry in front.
“Meanwhile, the victim identified as Mohammad Nor Azizi Fauzi rode a motorcycle with his15-year-old sister-in-law as pillion rider. They were heading towards SMK Sebuyau.
“While the car was trying to overtake the truck, it collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. This caused the motorcycle to skid to the roadside before hitting a road sign,” he said in a statement.
Alexson noted that the victim died on the way to Simunjan Hospital while his sister-in-law who sustained injuries to her hands and feet was referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
The car driver and passengers were unharmed in the incident.
It was believed that the motorcycle’s headlights had malfunctioned during the incident resulting in the car not noticing the presence of the motorcycle.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
