SIBU: A double-storey dormitory block in Citizen Middle School (Sekolah Menengah Citizen) caught fire early Friday morning (Oct 23).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre received an emergency call around 7.40am on the incident.
A team of firemen from the Sibu central fire and rescue station here was deployed to the fire scene immediately.
Operations commander TPgB II Abdul Mutalif Jaafar told that upon arrival, the fire had already caused 70 percent damage to the building.
It was reported that the ground floor is the dining hall and store while the upper floor is a dormitory housing 20 occupants comprising a teacher with two children, eight male students and nine female students.
Firefighters managed to totally extinguish the fire at 9.40am. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
