KUCHING: Politicians from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) have been urged to prioritise the people instead of engaging in excessive politicking especially during this difficult time of Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa chairman Wilfred Yap said there have been numerous unsubstantiated provocative statements on various speculative issues from PSB and DAP recently due to the 12th state elections likely to be held soon.

“Instead of politicking in the media they should instead place the needs of the people first and to have their problems and requests for development resolved and settled,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Regardless of politicking by PSB and DAP during this Covid-19 pandemic, Yap, who is also the SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief, assured the public that the branch and the complaint bureau will continue to be focused and fully committed to serving the people.

“We will continue to be their eyes and ears and shall continue to speak out on matters of good governance and fairness in accordance with the rule of law by using the proper channels,” he said.

On another matter, Yap said during their regular ‘turun padang’ (going to the ground) to be with local community leaders and the public within Kota Sentosa area, they were frequently approached by residents who requested the local council to repair damaged infrastructural facilities like drains and roads.

He mentioned that at Kung Phin Road, the residents complained about the poor condition of the ditches along Kung Phin road. He thanked Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) for upgrading the drains to concrete.
