KUCHING: A total of 1,396,886 hectares of native customary lands have been approved for perimeter survey under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the data was taken from the Bumiputera Customary Land Rights Survey Progress Programme of the Land and Survey Department as of July 31 this year.

According to Sagah, of the amount, 941,318 hectares had been surveyed while the remaining 455,568 hectares were waiting to be surveyed.

“As for the lands that have been surveyed, a total of 753,456 hectares have been gazetted while the remaining 187,862 hectares are awaiting gazetting,” he added.

He was presenting a talk on ‘Strategic Sharing: Native Customary Rights (NCR) Lands’ during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) special convention at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Sunday.

Sagah who is PBB vice president revealed that 113,279 hectares have been approved for surveying under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code for issuance of individual lots.

A total of 42,962 hectares have been surveyed and the respective owners given land titles, he said.
