KUCHING: All individuals who have been screened at Emart Batu Kawa here beginning Friday are currently waiting for their laboratory test results.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said contact tracing for Covid-19 cases was actively conducted at the venue following two positive cases detected the day before.
“A total of 507 individuals have been screened, comprising employees, tenants and those who have visited the supermarket.
“As of 12 noon today (Nov 7), all screened individuals are still awaiting their test results,” he said in a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, state Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing said an analysis on Covid-19 transmission frequency shows that it was linked to those aged between 20 and 40 and who are professionals and businessmen.
“They have face-to-face meetings and they often visit eateries. When they were infected with Covid-19, they went home and infected their family members — including children and senior citizens.
“Apart from that, they also infected friends through social gatherings before they were confirmed to be positive of the virus,” he said.
Therefore, Dr Chin urged the people to practice physical distancing at all times, use face masks, practice good hand hygiene, stay at home, and postpone any face-to-face meetings and traveling.
He also urged those who think they have been exposed to the virus to undergo screenings at their nearest healthcare facility.
