BINTULU: More than 400 face masks were distributed to Bintulu Night Market vendors in “Meet and Greet The Hawkers” programme with Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) deputy chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan and BDA general manager Muhamad Yakup Kari today.
Covid-19 related leaflets were also distributed.
The programme was one of BDA’s initiatives in an effort to provide awareness to the community, especially Bintulu Night Market traders on the importance of complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government in curbing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking to the media after the programme, Haidar said BDA would also come up with various other initiatives in the near future as an effort to help the community in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
He described the programme as proof that BDA was committed and concerned about the safety and well-being of the local community.
Earlier, he and Yakup attended a briefing on the programme presented by the Perbinda Service Office environment manager Mangga Nyuyang.
Bintulu Night Market houses 157 hawker stalls with 31 food and beverage outlets, 19 vegetable stalls, 47 daily vegetable stalls, 13 stalls selling non-halal food and beverages, 45 stalls selling accessories and two stalls selling fish and freshwater fish.
It is understood that during the period of the movement control order (MCO), the public complied with the SOP on the use of face masks.
