KUCHING: A patrol team of the 11th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (11 RAMD) deported 11 illegal immigrants for attempting to cross into Sarawak over the weekend.
The First Infantry Division said the soldiers were patrolling areas in Tebedu, Serian at 10.10pm on Saturday (Nov 7) when they came upon four men walking towards the Sarawak-Indonesia border.
“Inspections found that they are from Entikong, Indonesia, and wanted to work in Kuching. The men were then deported back to their country of origin.
“A few hours after the incident, a group of seven individuals (five men and two women) were detected at 2.30am at Kampung Kandaie, Bau,” the division said.
They were seen walking through an oil palm plantation and at a hut near the Sarawak-Indonesia border.
The division added that inspections carried out on the individuals found that they cross into the state for work purposes.
All of them were deported back to their home country.
“The immigrants’ attempt to enter Sarawak illegally was unsuccessful due to strict border control and swift action by security forces.
“The Malaysian Armed Forces are committed, focused and on guard in analysing the environment and controlling the country’s borders from any cross-border criminal activity, encroachment and infiltration at any time, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” the division said.
