KUCHING: Eleven senior students of a boarding school here, who changed their pleas from ‘not guilty’ to ‘guilty’, will know of their fates on Dec 17.

The Magistrate’s Court has set the date to hear their social reports.

Magistrate Sharifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered  all the accused, aged between 15 and 17, to be released on a RM5,000 bail with a parent as surety respectively.

The accused comprised students from Form 3, 4 and 5 who were allegedly involved in causing hurt to three Form 2 students on January 19 at about 1am at the school dormitory at Jalan Batu Kawa.

According to initial reports, the victims were beaten mercilessly and kicked by all the accused in the case.

Padawan Police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan mentioned in his statement that the incident came to light after one of the victims told his parents about the trauma that he faced in school.

“The victim was initially asked to fight with one of the Form Three students using his fists but turned down the fight, according to one of the senior students. Hence, he was pounced on and beaten up, causing him to fall against the wall and to the foot of the bed,” he said.

The victim also said that the incident was witnessed by a security guard who was making his rounds.

Due to the incident, each victim suffered from swelling in  the arms, stomachs, backs, thighs and shoulders.

The accused have been charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and under Section 34 which provides for a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad appeared for the prosecution while the accused were represented by defence counsel Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi.
