State tally now 1,032 cases with 13 new ones

KUCHING: Sarawak today recorded 13 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the tally of cases in the state to 1,032.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 12 cases were reported in Kuching, and one in Lawas.

Of the cases in Kuching, 11 test positive after close contacts with other positive cases.

“Case 1,020, 1,021, 1,022, 1,023, 1,024, 1,028 and 1,029 involved children who had close contacts with Case 1,010 and 1,012 that were reported on Nov 11 and 12.

“Case 1,020, 1,021 and 1,028 showed signs and symptoms of infection from Nov 6.

“Case 1,025 who had contact with Case 1,021 complained of fever and cough since Nov 9.

“Cases 1,026 and 1,027 on the other hand, are a child and a mother who had close contact with Case 1,027. Both cases did not show any sign or symptom of infection,” the committee said.

SDMC noted that Case 1,020 to 1,029 comprise seven men and three women aged between 5 and 28.

Case 1,032 is a senior citizen who had close contact with Case 967 in the same workplace with Case 967.

The case was screeneda at a government health clinic on Nov 12 and tested positive the next day.

This case did not have any sign and symptom of early infection. The case also related to the Wisma Saberkas Cluster.

“Another case detected is a local worker (Case 1,030) who was screened at a health clinic after having fever and cough since Nov 10. The result proved positive on Nov 12.

“This case did not travel abroad or went any high-risk area in the country.

“All cases in Kuching have been admitted to the isolation ward in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Active contact tracing is in full swing,” SDMC said.

The committee added that one new positive case reported in Lawas is a local government retiree who was screened on Nov 10.

The case travelled to Sabah on Sept 24 and 25 for health inspection at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu.

Upon returning to Lawas on Sept 25, the case was quarantined at home for 14 days. The case also underwent screening on Sept 30 and was found negative.

The case started having sore throat on Nov 9 and was screened the next day. The case was found positive on Nov 12 and later referred to and admitted to the isolation ward at Miri Hospital.

SDMC added that eight cases had recovered and had been discharged — 5 cases from SGH and three from Miri Hospital — bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 890 or 86.24 percent.

As of today, 123 individuals have been treated at hospital isolation wards in the state — 109 at SGH and 14 at Miri Hospital.

“Twenty persons under investigation (PUI) cases have been reported while three are awaiting laboratory results.

“There are no cases receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). The death toll in the state remains at 19,” the committee said.
